Principle Series - Dr. Wayne Dyer - Part Two

The second principle that Dr. Dyer talks about in this short video is

You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.

In order to solve the things that you call problems in your life....

you must change your mind... your thoughts.

Most problems live in your mind.

Most were created in your mind.

There in your mind is where you experience them.

Most are all illusions.

Just imagine..... if we

Admit it.

That we were wrong.

Admit that it was our own thoughts that created the scenarios that brought us down.

Things that caused or created or added to a situation that was only partly.. a situation.. but most likely more a creation of the situation as well as the outcome in our own mind.

Our thoughts are such a powerful part of us.  Truly, they can make or break us, and they can make or break friendships, families, relationships, jobs...

But if we work on shifting our thought patterns.

If we work on loving people for who they are and not who we think they should be.

How could that shift our life?

For instance... looking at someone.  Think of what you love about them.   Just that.

Let your thoughts dwell there.

Not on what you don't love or don't like.  Not on what you want them to be or want them to do.

But only on what you love about them.

You may feel a shift inside as you practice this.

We love the things we love, for what they are

--Robert Frost

Not for what they wereOr what they could beOr what we'd like them to be.

But for what they are.

Dr Dyer wrote a wonderful book called Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.

Its quite a eye opening book.  Maybe your entire life, like me, you've let your thinking do its own thing.

But maybe... just maybe you were wrong.  Your thoughts were wrong.  The feelings and outcome that incurred because of your mindset were wrong.

I can now look back over the past and clearly see where I was wrong. And see the part I played in my own unhappiness.

That's powerful.

And the reason that's powerful is because I have the ability to change that.  No one else.  I do.  And I did.  Just like that.

I've let that distant past go.  Only bring it up to learn something from it.

I believe the now is what matters and it's all we ever truly have.

Like Part One, I have chosen to give up my personal history.

Just like that.

The goal for the rest of the life that I have here this time around... is peace.

I mentioned before how my mother would criticize me throughout my life.  She would say... you've got a mouth.. use it.   Or she'd say it's better to shout and force what you want.  Dont' take no for a answer.  She called it being strong.   And she told me many times that I was weak because I wasn't forceful enough.   And throughout my life, I would go to war with myself because I thought I was weak.  I thought I should become something that I was not.

And later, when she was in the hospital for the last six months of her life, she said to me... (and she was never prone to quoting religious texts)

Blessed are the peacemakers.

And I laughed at her and started teasing her about getting religion while she was sick....

And she smiled at me and she said, no. I was wrong.  You've had it right all along.

And my thoughts on my mother changed that day.  And I only dwell on what I loved about her.

And that day, when she said that to me, I saw that she loved who I was too and finally, she wasn't going to try to change me anymore.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be the children of God.

Aren't we all?   Children of God.

Dwell on what you love about someone.

Watch how it changes things.  Not how it changes them, but how it changes you.

Love people for who they are.

For who they are.

Everything begins with a thought.

 Everything.

What you do with that thought.  What you allow to build with that thought.  And what you dwell on with that thought is what shapes your reality.

Your reality.

No one elses.
